Sindsdien bepalen Turkse dans en muziek zijn leven. In 1984 is hij naar Nederland gekomen om hier als dansdocent, choreograaf en muzikant te werken. Inmiddels geeft hij in heel Nederland Turkse danslessen, ook bij ons in Amsterdam. Als choreograaf werkt hij voor verschillende demonstratiegroepen en als muzikant gaat hij mee naar hun optredens. Verder werkt hij regelmatig in het buitenland – in Amerika, Canada, Engeland, Zwitserland, Duitsland en Belgiė. Hij heeft ook meegewerkt aan een CD opname voor promotie van dansdocenten in Nederland, genaamd “Dancing with the Dutch”. Zijn vak heeft hij geleerd door het gewoon te doen en zichzelf de spiegel telkens voor te houden, de reacties van zijn cursisten waren hierbij zijn wegwijzer. De dansen die hij introduceert houdt hij altijd zo authentiek mogelijk, maar voor de muziek kiest hij soms een andere weg. Authentieke muziek bestaat voornamelijk uit zurna en davul. Omdat Turgay ook muzikant is kan hij zijn lessen met deze instrumenten begeleiden; hij werkt echter meestal met muziekopnames. Soms maakt hij opnames samen met muzikanten in Nederland en probeert deze met veel verschillende traditionele instrumenten te arrangeren. Op die manier kan hij afwisselende en goed gestructureerde muziek aanbieden. Zo is het mogelijk dat cursisten ook na de cursus zelfstandig met het geleerde materiaal verder kunnen gaan. Turgay noemt zijn dansprogramma “Dansen uit Anatoliė” omdat culturen geen grenzen kennen. Anatoliė is een gebied dat voor een groot deel in Turkije ligt en de wieg van veel culturen is. Dit kan men zien aan de 7 uiteenlopende dansstijlen die van elkaar heel veel elementen hebben overgenomen.
